Residential House in British Columbia

Location

British Columbia, Canada

About the Project

An architecturally distinctive residence that demonstrates an innovative approach to construction on challenging terrain using contemporary Canadian architectural principles. The client sought to obtain an atypical house that doesn’t simply adapt to the slope, but actively interacts with it, creating unique spatial effects and maximizing the functionality of each level.

Design Solution

We created a sculptural composition of three offset rectangular volumes that create a cascading effect when moving along the slope. The asymmetrical facade composition with varying roof levels adds dynamism and uniqueness to this building, contrasting with the vertical lines of the surrounding coniferous trees.

Key Features

Contrasting Materiality

Dark gray horizontal siding as the primary material is complemented by white concrete inserts and warm wooden column accents

Functional Multi-level Design

Level 1 with garage and technical facilities, Level 2 as the main living level, basement with technical and storage spaces

Landscape Integration

Natural stone boulders preserved and integrated into the architectural composition as landscaping elements

Architectural Details

Cantilever balconies with minimalist glass railings, rhythmic vertical supports made of natural wood, panoramic ribbon windows, and integrated exterior lighting elements that emphasize the building's geometry during evening hours.

Result

An architectural exemplar of contemporary Canadian design that transforms the challenges of slope construction into unique spatial opportunities. The created house project, with its thoughtful geometry, provides a multi-level living experience where each floor has its own character and connection to the natural surroundings of British Columbia.
